Save the Doge is built around a straightforward puzzle problem: keep a dog safe from attacking bees by drawing a protective barrier. Players use a finger to create lines on the screen rather than directly controlling the dog, making the placement and shape of each barrier central to solving a level.
The protection must last through the attack, giving each attempt a timing element as the swarm tries to reach the dog. Players also have a reason to avoid unnecessary drawing, since using less ink can lead to a better result. A large barrier may provide plenty of coverage, but an efficient solution requires thinking about where protection is most useful and how much of the available drawing space is actually needed.
The game uses multiple rescue situations with increasing difficulty, while bees and wasps provide the main hazards.
